The Lost Treasure of the Caves

Pitch

Welcome, adventurers! You are all soon to be 8th graders at Astoria Middle School, a place buzzing with the excitement of summer break '86 and the whispers of hidden treasures. Rumours swirl about a mysterious cave system under the town, said to hold secrets and riches left behind by those who dared to explore before you.

As you gather in your favorite hangout spot, the old treehouse on the edge of Tapiola Park, you overhear a conversation about a treasure map that has surfaced, leading to the fabled Cavern of Wonders. With your hearts racing and a sense of adventure igniting your spirits, you decide to embark on a quest to uncover the truth behind the legend.

Prepare yourselves, brave explorers! You will face challenges that test your wits, courage, and friendship. Remember, your skills are shaped by your abilities, and your journey begins with a single step into the unknown. Will you uncover the treasure, or will the caves keep their secrets hidden forever?

Gather your gear, trust in each other, and let the adventure begin!

Character Creation

• Everyone is Human
• Level: 1
• Ability Scores: Use the standard array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) to define your character's strengths and weaknesses.
• Hit Points: Your default MAX HP is calculated as 10 + your Constitution modifier + your current level (which is 1).
• Proficiency Bonus: Choose two ability scores to augment, but only for actions or saves (eg to get both a STR action and save proficiency would use both of your available bonuses). Use your level, since you are all level 1, you have +1.
• Speed: Everyone has speed 6. Trade an action to double your speed.
• Action Economy: 1 action, 1 movement
• Other rules and actions are given ad hoc for good role playing!

Setting

Astoria, a small coastal town (unless you live in Warrenton or Ilwaco or something in which case Astoria ain't on the coast!) with a rich history and a few secrets hidden beneath its surface.
