- # Introduction
- **Kiwi** is a set of ontologies, which are domain-specific vocabularies, for
- [[/projects/Smaoin]]. These vocabularies are used when expressing information
- and describing objects which belong to the domain.
- Ontologies are usually interconnected. It makes no difference to the
- information, to which ontology some entity belongs. But by dividing the
- definitions into domains, managing the vocabularies and their development
- becomes easier for humans. It also allows people to organize and create
- vocabularies for their areas of interest and expertise.
- The Kiwi ontologies are not special in any way - they are regular ontologies
- just like any other. But Kiwi is a title for the ontologies developed as part
- of the Rel4tion project. Many ontologies are the basis for many practical uses
- of Razom, and common types of applications will need them.
- The name "Kiwi" comes from "wiki" with letters switched. The first ontology
- which entered development was based on the data model of wikis (like this
- wiki), so I called it Kiwi. Later I added many many new ontologies and the
- original Kiwi ontology wasn't just about wikis anymore, but I liked the name
- and decided to use Kiwi as a title for the ontology development effort in
- Rel4tion.
